Garland, Texas is the 10th largest city in Texas, covering 57 square miles. Located 15 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, Garland is home to more than 200,000 residents and continues to grow. The city's frontage on Lake Ray Hubbard provides residents with water recreation activities including boating and fishing. With the expansion of Hughway 190 to the north, Garland continues to attract residents to the area as well as strong business opportunities for the area's workforce. Garland has also added several notable developments within the last few years, including Hawaiian Falls waterpark and Firewheel Town Center, a premier outdoor mall with more than 100 shops and restaurants. The DART Light Rail Line bisects the city with two stations, making getting around the metroplex easier than ever before.
The Garland Independent School District is notable for its three campuses that have been recognized by the US Department of Education as Blue Ribbon Schools, placing them in the top 20 percent of schools in the nation. GISD offers computer labs at every campus, magnet schools for artistically and academically gifted students, and advanced placement courses for college credit.
